FOHM – The Shaws in Hertfordshire: Shaw’s Corner & George Bernard Shaw. A talk by Philippa Parker

Tuesday 17th June 2025 – 8pm
Philippa is a former librarian who grew up in St Albans and has lived there and in Letchworth Garden City for much of her life. She has been a volunteer at Shaw’s Corner, the Shaws’ home of 44 years, which he left to the National Trust, for 15 years and researches and writes for Shaw-related journals. She is the leader of Letchworth Local History Research Group, which studies and publishes on the history of the world’s first garden city, and contributes articles to Herts Past & Present, the journal of the Hertfordshire Association for Local History. The copiously illustrated talk will cover the active and productive years which George Bernard and Charlotte Shaw spent in our county, detailing their links to some well-known fellow residents, the campaigns they involved themselves in, their relationship with the villagers of Ayot St Lawrence and friendships with famous people.

Refreshments will be available from 7.30pm.

St. Andrew’s Centre, St. Andrew Street, Hertford.
