Hertford Museum has a diverse collection of Fine Art and Ceramics with over 1200 examples of fine art alongside over 600 ceramic works.
Fine Art
The collection predominately represents the work of local artists depicting Herford and East Hertfordshire. Key collections include the thirty watercolours of the area by George Towers, a XXX oil paintings by E.A. Brown R. A. and three watercolours by Thomas Rowlandson.
Ceramics
The ceramics collection is diverse and represents the changing tastes of Hertford residents as well as souvenir pottery commemorating national and local events.
Local Artists
Hertford Museum holds works by notable local artists such as E.A. Brown, Trevor Chamberlain and Cathy Smale. If not on display, these paintings are available to view by appointment.
LGBT artists
Hertford Museum is proud to hold the archive of LGBT illustration pioneer Ronald Wright. The collection includes drawings, paintings, photographs, magazines and articles charting the life and work of this ground breaking Hertfordian. The museum also holds a small collection of oil paintings, some LGBT themed, by local artist John Godden.
