This beautiful oil painting of St Leonard’s Church in Bengeo is the most recent addition to our collections. It was given to us following the death of its owner Joan Norris and joins several other paintings in our collection by local artist E.A. Brown.
The church of St Leonards dates from about 1120 and is built using local stone and flint with a tiled roof and contains the remains of medieval wall paintings which were rediscovered during restoration work in 1938. If you have a chance make sure to visit one of the oldest buildings in Hertford!
