Christmas (& New Year) fun at the museum!

Wednesday, December 17th, 2014

It’s almost Christmas but there’s still plenty happening at the museum! This Friday is the last Country Market of 2014 so visit the museum to pick up some tasty treats as well as plenty of stocking filler gifts from our shop!

Then on Tuesday 23rd December we have a special day of Handmade Christmas crafts. Drop in between 10.30 – 3.30 for a chance to make some sparkly crafts including a very special decoration! It’s just £1.50 per child and a great way to break up your Christmas shopping!

We will be open on Christmas Eve until 2pm and then closed for the holidays! We reopen on the 2nd January with two days of Stay & Play for free!

Of course it doesn’t stop there, we have all sorts of exciting things planned for 2015 including an exhibition of photography by celebrated ornithologist William Bickerton, a chance for you to have your own nature photographs or artwork displayed in the museum, an exhibition all about Watton-at-Stone (so if you leave in the village we’ll be looking for photographs and objects soon) as well as exhibitions looking at all kinds of music in Hertford and, at the end of 2015, Hertford at War looking at some very special local stories and anniversaries as part of the First World War centenary commemorations.

We’ve also brought you this very Christmas-y video from our Christmas Spectacular! If you like what you see then don’t forget that this Saturday, 13th December it’s our Christmas Model Railway day and this year it’s extra special because Santa Claus is visiting!

It’s also our last Knit & Natter of 2014 this Thursday and there will be some festive treats alongside the usual tea & coffee so if you’ve never been before this would be a great month to start!

Make sure you’re following us on facebook and twitter or keeping a close watch on our website for information about all the Christmas fun coming up at the museum.

Christmas comes to the museum!

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2014

On Friday evening 841 of you visited our Christmas Spectacular! It was an amazing evening with the Christmas Lights being switched on in town, St Andrews Church Choir singing carols for us, some amazingly glittery crafts coming out of the Andrews Room and best of all Santa Claus himself was here!

If you missed out on seeing Santa last week then don’t despiar- he’s agreed to come and visit the children of Hertford again on Saturday 13th December as part of our Christmas Model Railway Day! He’ll be here from 10.30- 12.00 and then again from 2.00 – 4.00 so check out our website for full details!

Also on our website are details of our other Christmas events from a very sparkly Christmas Toddler Morning to our Handmade Christmas family activities on the 23rd December! You can also find out about our regular Knit & Natter day (with mince pies as its nearly Christmas!) and don’t forget Rise of the Machines is still on!

And if all of that isn’t enough then we’re also posting a Hertford Museum Advent Calendar online this year with a different object from our collections posted each day! You can check it out on facebook or on twitter with the hashtag #HMAdvent.
