Summer Holiday Fun (in the sun and the rain!)

Wednesday, July 31st, 2013

Thank you to everyone who came to our Archaeological Extravaganza on Saturday! It was a wonderful day with flint kanpping and hunting and cave painting and even enough sun for ice lollies in the garden.

The themes for the 5 weeks this summer are:

Week three Seasides and Rock Pools
Week four Doctor for a Day

Plus when it’s sunny outside why not buy a copy of our Family Town Quiz? It will take you on a tour around the centre of Hertford answering questions that will make you look more closely at the buildings you see every day. There’s a prize draw for everyone who returns their quizzes so that’s another chance to win!

You’ve got one more day to come and make your own wooly mammoth or have a go at some prehistoric cave art so don’t miss out!

Bargain Summer Reading

Wednesday, July 17th, 2013

I hope all our followers are surviving in this heat- we’re all taking regular breaks in the shady parts of the museum garden (and the occasional ice lolly!) The best thing to do in this weather is find a shady spot, a cool drink and a good book to read and we can help with the last part!

Happy Anniversary Hertford County Hospital

Wednesday, July 10th, 2013

Last weekend we celebrated 180 years of Hertford County Hospital. On Saturday there was party for current and past staff at the hospital itself and then on Sunday St Andrews Church hosted a service of thanksgiving.

It was lovely to see how important and loved Hertford County Hospital was to so many people and just how many people turned out despite the heat and the tennis!

We’re just three days away from the opening of our Hertford County Hospital exhibition so while we keep working on that here are some pictures from the weekend.

Keeping busy!

Thursday, July 4th, 2013

We’ve had so much going on recently I’m afraid this week’s blog is a day late (sorry!)

Bengeo Stories closed on Saturday and Hertford County Hospital opens on Saturday 13th July so we’re currently switching between the two AND preparing for our summer activities AND working hard to make sure that this autumn’s World of Wallace exhibition is ready for you.

So here are a few photos of what’s going on behind the scenes at the museum today.

Next week we’ll have a sneak preview of the new exhibition for you! But in the mean time come and visit our permanent galleries and enjoy the sunshine (when it is shining!) in our garden.
